New Phones Launched this April 2020

New Phones Launched this April 2020

Hello everyone, it's been tough time from past one month and most of the anticipated phones like iPhone SE or Pixel 4a which are supposed to be released in April or May have been moved to offline launches or to a later dates. As of today, we have seen OnePlus launching their new flagship OnePlus 8/OnePlus 8 Pro and iPhone launching a mid price phone with few flagship phones.

OnePlus 8 Series: A Good Upgrade

OnePlus has only been aggressively launching phones since last 2-3 years. Their models since OnePlus 6 has got wide popularity internationally. But I feel OnePlus 7, OnePlus 7 Pro, OnePlus 7T, OnePlus 7T Pro all these models were launched very aggressively making customers feel they are not using latest models despite buying them in 2nd month after launch. Few interesting specs introduced in this new phones and makes them stand much more out of the standard Samsung/Google flagships are like follows,

The Good:

  • Wireless Charging
  • Water Resistant rating
  • 120 Hz Screens

The Bad:

  • OnePlus is no more budget flagship, their non-pro model starts around 699$ and pro model starts at 899$

The Difference between OnePlus 8 vs  8 Pro:

  • OnePlus 8 doesn't have dedicated Telephoto lens where has pro model has it. I would prefer Telephoto over macro lens which has been provided in the OnePlus 8 which benefits in depth sensing.
These features are also available in all of the other flagships but they were never been in OnePlus phones and lacking these was one of the stopping reason for few Android customers to move to OnePlus brand.

Availability:

You can order OnePlus 8 Pro from April 29, 12 AM PT via their OnePlus website or Amazon
and OnePlus 8 from April 29, 12 AM PT via their OnePlus website or Amazon

Note: OnePlus 7T has reduced to 499$ on OnePlus website and T-mobile OnePlus 6T is at $349 on OnePlus website which is still a great deal if you are not looking for wireless charging etc.,

Apple iPhone SE: Good Mid range but faster phone

Apple has come up with a mid range phone with good specs on the list this year. Everyone expected this to be released around last year but as Apple has always done everything late this phone is also released in 2020 with a design form factor which belongs to half a decade ago. Interesting part is the tech inside this phone. It has got one of the fastest processor ever in the Apple phones Apple A13 processor. The downsides are the camera, Apple should have at least provided ultra wide camera or a telephoto which helps in getting some cool photo shoots even from a mid range phone but I would prefer the pricing to be roughly around $349 and not even $399 just for a processor chip which I honestly do not expect much from a $399 phone. This was not the mistake done by Google when releasing the Pixel 3a line up, they have maintained the same camera as camera and pictures are one of the best appreciated features of the phones. But in a way Apple also maintained the same strategy as Apple phones are meant to be fast, they have relied their back on processor instead of Camera.

Coming to iPhone SE, it has got a similar shape of iPhone 8 and same design as if it with new internals. I may not be wrong even if Apple used unused iPhone 8 externals and hardware by replacing it with A13 chip and few newer hardware modules to reduce hardware costs. It is priced at $399 and available in 3 different colors as pictured above. White, PRODUCT RED, Black.

The Good:

  • Fastest Processor chip coming in a $399 phone
  • Those who are still used to iPhone 7 era can easily upgrade to this phone and do not feel any hassle
  • Wireless and Fast Charging enabled
  • Dual Sim (nano sim and e sim)

The Bad:

  • Single Wide Camera
  • Poor Front Camera
  • 5W charging brick

Availability:

iPhone SE can be brought on Apple website or carrier websites from April 24, 2020.

moto g stylus and series: All round winner

moto g stylus

moto g power

Surprisingly Motorola has launched new line up of Moto g phones and a model with stylus like the Samsung Note series phones. This stylus is used to edit, sketch and taking notes just like S Pen. As with their previous models I have only one complain about their any phone that the phone doesn't carry a flagship processor. They have stopped using a flagship processor since Moto Z3 which was also exclusively sold for Verizon network which is not comfortable for most of the Android users. I believe Google pixel intially stepped in same direction but quickly they realized phones should be not locked to specific networks and that's how Pixel 2 and Pixel 3 were most successful in the lineup and Android phones besides Samsung.

Coming to these new phones, the stylus is a good part for new phones and I like that option to be provided for pen enthusiasts.

The Good:

  • Great camera for the price they have been listed.
  • moto g power has 3 days of battery life on paper
  • stylus support is the best option to be given for note takers
  • 128 gb basic storage for $299 stylus phone
  • headphone jack

The Bad:

  • Slightly less powered processor chips
  • standard motorola charger brick all these years was 15W turbo charger and these phones now are provided with 10W charging bricks

Availability:

moto g stylus priced at $299 is available on their website starting today
moto g power priced at $249 is available on their website starting today
