Apple Watch Series 6: $399, good that Apple included Blood Oxygen level tracker
Apple has announced the Apple Watch Series 6, the latest in its line of popular smartwatches. The Series 6 model maintains the same overall design introduced with the Apple Watch Series 4 and continued with the Series 5, but it adds a variety of new sensors to allow for things like blood oxygen monitoring and better sleep tracking.
Apple says the Series 6 can measure blood oxygen levels in about 15 seconds, using both red and infrared light. The company says it’s partnering with health networks to start large-scale studies using the new blood oxygen measurement feature, including testing to see if it can detect if a person is infected with COVID-19.
The always-on display is said to be 2.5 times brighter than the one on the Series 5, so it’s easier to read when your arm is on a desk or when outdoors. It’s also now possible to access notifications, Control Center, change watch faces, or tap on complications without fully waking the screen.
Another new sensor is the always-on altimeter, which provides real-time elevation information. Apple says it is accurate down to a foot of measurement
Apple Watch SE: $279, affordable option but still not affordable
Apple has announced the Apple Watch SE, a successor to the three-year-old Apple Watch Series 3. The device starts at $279; cellular models start at $329. It’s available this Friday, but you can order it today.
The model shares some of the features of the new Apple Watch Series 6, including built-in accelerometer, gyroscope, and always-on altimeter, as well as sleep tracking and hand-washing detection. Cellular models can be used to make emergency calls, even internationally, with the Emergency SOS feature. The SE doesn’t seem to have an always-on display, which was a highlight of the Series 5.
The watch uses the S5 System in Package (SiP) and dual-core processor, which Apple says will allow for up to two times better performance than we saw from the Series 3.
The SE looks pretty similar to the Series 4, which Apple discontinued with the launch of the Series 5 last year. The Series 4 came with 40mm and 42mm displays — the Series 3 held 42mm and 38mm displays in the same case size. Apple says the SE’s Retina display is 30 percent larger than that of the Series 3. It’s also compatible with all Apple Watch bands, including the new silicone “Solo Loop” and yarn “Braided Solo Loop” that Apple announced today.

Apple iPad 8th gen: $329, best got even better
Apple iPad air: $599, too expensive and stylish
Apple is unveiling a new iPad Air today that looks very similar to the company’s iPad Pro. It’s a significant design change from the current Air, which was brought back to life last year in between the iPad and iPad Pro. Last year’s Air has thick top and bottom bezels and a button for Touch ID, but this new iPad Air has much thinner bezels all around the display. Apple’s new iPad Air looks like a refresh of the iPad Pro design, and it will be available next month priced from $599.Apple is using a bigger 10.9-inch Liquid Retina display (2360 x 1640) on this new iPad Air that’s fully laminated with True Tone support and anti-reflective coating. In order to squeeze this display in, Apple has moved the Touch ID fingerprint sensor to the power button at the top.
