Why is everyone behind Short Video Clips(byte clips)?

Wednesday November 25, 2020: As the pandemic continues I have see many advancements in Social media companies offering to their users. I am going to now discuss on which all companies are behind offering a short video service which are byte clips. This has first started off with Vine where the clip length was only 6 seconds. This was good for memes stuff and comedy videos but not for anything meaningful or explanatory. Tiktok which is owned by Byte Dance corp has targeted this gap of users and has allowed users to create videos and a feed which is continuously filled with videos based on user activity. This has reduced time for the users to navigate and play the content instead users keep scrolling through a list of videos just like they navigate in their gallery. The main reason of Tiktok success is its interesting videos without any interruption and as the users can be more lazy and just with a swipe they move to the next video.

What happened to Tiktok?

Tiktok has been an app of target by many countries whether it can be reason of not abiding by policies or security concerns. India has previously banned Tiktok as a part of 2019 provisional ban on April 17, 2019 by removing from the app stores of Android and iOS. Tiktok was back again on April 25, 2019 after pleading and complying. This ban was applied as a result of Indian State high court citing that the app promotes "inappropriate content" and "encourages pornography"

On June 29, 2020 Indian government has banned Tiktok along with 223 other chinese apps citing "prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity of India, defence of India, security of state and public order". This was in response to the military clash between India and Chinese army in the borders. Also the United States had a long trail of legal battles with Tiktok whether or not to ban the company from operating in the United States. The entire history of Tiktok facing hurdles is documented here: Wiki article

Which other companies followed the path of Tiktok?

Several other companies have started taking up the space which is empty with the ban of Tiktok in India and other countries but interestingly other major social media companies have also targeted this space and rolled out features similar to Tiktok working model.

My opinion:

I personally feel all these are piece of just wasting our useful time. I mostly prefer facebook watch where at least I get to decide what content I am watching instead of some stupid dances from so-called "content creators". I am completely ok with not having a category of above items at all.
