SCAM ALERT!! My Experience with Escobar Fold Phone Purchase

April 22, 2020: I know it has been very late and by know every one has already very sure not to place any orders for Escobar Fold phones. I am here today to share my experience during my purchase and how did I save my money from contributing $400 to a drug cartel for no reason.

Initial Order Experience: 

I have already mentioned my initial order experience in my previous blog post. You can find it here. In short, it was not smooth but I have to make clear that I made the payment only when I have seen Klarna as the payment gateway being used. Klarna is one of the leading payment gateways for eCommerce platform. Also, I have paid using credit card which I can easily dispute the charge with my credit card company in the event of fraud or incomplete transaction. Soon after a month and Klarna stopped paying Escobar company the payments received the company has moved to Bank Account payments or wire transfer and Cryptocurrency payment methods which is very unsafe.

Updates on the Orders:

I have been tracking and in constant communication with the customer support email of the Escobar company and getting timely replies as well as updates on my order. Somewhere around Jan 17, the escobar website had a functionality to track individual's orders and see where their orders are. When I checked, mine was out of production and in shipping status. Then I came across one video from LJPTech stating he has received a flyer saying "Your order has been upgraded to Escobar Fold 2" which was showing a skinned version of Samsung Galaxy Fold. I posted the same to customer support. Please find them below

Soon after, Escobar has stopped taking credit card payments because many others like me has charged back with the help of their financial institutions. Escobar then made it official that they have launched Escobar Fold 2 which makes no sense when they didn't ship one order of their previous phone Escobar Fold 1.

Strategy from the Company: 

• Moved the payment from credit cards to bank transfers and cryptocurrency
• Fulfilled orders only to Youtubers so they make a video and promote 
• Fake paid promotions from few celebrities via Cameo website to pull more orders
• Shipping some books and flyers to hold and get some more promotion as if the company is shipping the actual product

They have played it very well by fulfilling orders only to Youtubers like Mrwhosetheboss, unboxtherapy and many more like LJPTech. In fact, none of these youtubers have endorsed the phone nor recommended any of their viewers to buy them but I appreciate MKBHD for pointing out all the information he gathered and warning users not to buy the phone in his video. By doing this they made an impression that company started shipping phones and they might have spent around $10,000 by doing so to get some thousands of orders from which they can collect about several more thousands of money from innocent people. With bank transfers it is highly impossible to chargeback or get back the money if any company doesn't fulfill the order. They have used this strategy to steal the money.

Final Verdict: DON'T BUY ESCOBAR FOLD PHONES

My sincere suggestion not only restricting it to Escobar company but to any other phone manufacturer who come up in future promising a phone is to make sure the payment gateways are secured and reliable. Another tip is to only use credit cards when placing the orders and not from your bank account as credit cards are always backed up by Fraud protection so your money is safe.
